How to Add a New Book
This guide will walk you through the process of adding a new book to your library using the RS WP Book Showcase plugin. The interface is intuitive and leverages the native WordPress editor, making it easy to input extensive book details.
Step 1: Access the Book Editor
- Log in to your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
- Navigate to RS WP Books Showcase > Add New Book from the sidebar menu.
Step 2: Main Book Details
At the top of the editor, you will find the standard WordPress fields. These are essential for every book.
- Book Title: Enter the main title of your book here.
- Description (Editor): Use the large text area to write the full synopsis, summary, or blurb of the book. You can add images, headings, and format text here.
- Book Front Cover (Featured Image): Look for the “Book Front Cover” box in the right sidebar. Click “Set Book Front Cover” to upload your book’s cover image. This is the primary image displayed in the grid.
Step 3: Book Information (Meta Data)
Below the main description editor, you will find the “Book Information” panel. This is where you input specific details about the book.

- Book Price: Enter the regular price (e.g.,
19.99). The currency symbol is handled automatically via settings. - Book Sale Price: Enter a discounted price if applicable.
- Buy Button Text: Custom text for the button (e.g., “Buy on Amazon”).
- Buy Button Link: The direct URL where readers can purchase the book.

- ISBN / ISBN-10 / ISBN-13: Enter the unique identification numbers for your book.
- ASIN: Enter the Amazon Standard Identification Number (useful for Kindle books).
- Publisher Name: The name of the publishing house.
- Publish Date/Year: When the book was released.
- Language & Country: The language the book is written in and origin country.
- Book Format: E.g., Hardcover, Paperback, Kindle Edition.
- Book Pages: Total number of pages.

- Reading Age: Target audience age (e.g., “8+ years”).
- Grade Level: Educational grade level (e.g., “3 – 6”).
- Lexile Measure: Reading ability metric (e.g., “880L”).

If you are listing a digital book, you can add technical details:
- File Size & Format: E.g., “5 MB”, “PDF/ePub”.

- Simultaneous Device Usage: Limit on devices (e.g., “Unlimited” or “Up to 5”).

- Average Book Rating: Select a star rating from the dropdown (1 to 5 stars).
- Total Book Ratings: Number of reviews the book has received (e.g., “4500”).
- Book Rating Links: A link to where the reviews are hosted (e.g., Goodreads page).
- Availability: Set the status to Available, Upcoming, or leave blank.
Step 4: Pro Features (Advanced)
If you have RS WP Book Showcase Pro installed, you will see additional powerful options in the “Book Information” section.
Note: These fields allow for repeater data, meaning you can add multiple rows for each section.
1. Book Formats (Pro)
Instead of listing just one price, you can list multiple versions of the same book.
- Format Name: e.g., “Hardcover”, “Audiobook”.
- Price: The specific price for this format.
- Link: Direct purchase link for this specific format.
- Image: A specific icon or cover for this format.
2. Multiple Purchase Links (Pro)
Maximize sales by giving readers choices. Add links to all retailers where your book is sold.
- Website Name: e.g., Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books.
- Book URL: The direct link to the book on that store.
- Website Image: Upload the logo of the store.
3. Sample Content (Pro)
Engage readers by letting them preview the book directly on your site.
- Upload PDF: Upload a sample chapter or excerpt.
- Audio/Video URL: Add links to book trailers or audiobook samples.
Step 5: Taxonomies (Categorization)
On the right sidebar (or below the editor), utilize the taxonomy boxes to organize your library:
- Book Categories: Assign genres (e.g., Fiction, Mystery, Self-Help).
- Book Authors: Select or add the author(s) of the book. This creates a dedicated archive page for that author.
- Book Series: If the book is part of a series (e.g., “Harry Potter”), group it here.
Step 6: Publish
Once all information is entered:
- Scroll up to the Publish box in the top-right corner.
- Click the Publish button.
Your book is now live and will appear in your book showcases!
